Ruth Harrup was born in the West Country and lives and works in Norfolk. She is married with 2 children and 2 grandchildren. She attended what was then the Norwich School of Art as a mature student from 1979-83, gaining a BA in Fine Art (Painting). She has since taken part in many group exhibitions in East Anglia and London and has had solo shows in Norwich and Sheringham. For a number of years she participated in the Norfolk Open Studios Scheme, most recently in 2011, and has sold work in Norfolk and London.
She has taken the inspiration for most, but not all, of her work from her travels in Britain and Europe, with a special liking for Mediterranean and mountainous areas. Her starting point is a photograph or sketch but a piece of work may take on its own life and change during the process. But most of all her work is about colour.
